Shintai is a traditional Shotokan club, following a direct line from Hirokazu Kanazawa (who Sensei Tyrie trained and graded under). However, elements of Okinawan karate and Chinese martial arts, also get taught. We are not a Sports Karate class. Shintai is a martial art for health, self-defence, fitness and self-confidence. Competitive karate is taught, but it is not compulsory.

We are a traditional Shotokan club now based in Southsea,Portsmouth, England. We are affiliated to the International Association of Shotokan Karate (IASK) headed by Sensei Nicholas Adamou 10th Dan (one of Kanazawa Soke's most senior and respected students).

The club is run by Sensei Iain Tyrie B.Sc, PGCE, (7th Dan Shotokan).
